It is amazing but true:

• Hemlock Valley is only 90 minutes drive from Metro Vancouver. The third largest metro centre in Canada.
• Hemlock Valley and Whistler/Blackcomb are the only alpine ski areas within 5 hours drive of Vancouver where one can own or rent cabins and condos in the village.
• Normal snow fall in Hemlock Valley is significantly more than the Vancouver Mountains, including Whistler/Blackcomb.
• Once developed, Hemlock Valley will have more skiable terrain that any of the Vancouver Mountains except Whistler/Blackcomb.

There are about 230 chalets, condos and town homes in Hemlock Valley today. Throughout the village there are building lots that have been sitting empty for decades. It is estimated that if all of these lots were built up the number of lodgings would more than double. The following is a list of items of interest about the village.

• The local government is The Fraser Valley Regional District.
• The FVRD supplies solid waste management, planning and building services, and administration support.
• Hemlock Valley is represented by the Director of Electoral Area C in the FVRD.
• All lots/strata lots/ chalets are free hold properties.
• All utilities are underground and are at the lot line of unoccupied lots.
• The main road, (Hemlock Valley Road) is a provincial highway and is maintained by the Ministry of Highways.
• The residential streets are owned and maintained by the Ministry of Highways as well.
• Fire protection is provided by The Hemlock Valley Volunteer Fire Department.
• Fire department equipment includes 2 engines and 1 rescue vehicle.
• The village is serviced by a complete network of fire hydrants.
• The village water source is ground water flowing into a reservoir. It is then chlorinated and distributed to the village.
• The electrical utility owns the village grid and resells electricity purchased from B.C. Hydro.
• Common home heating fuels include electricity, propane, wood and wood pellets.
• The population of the village includes: 26 full time residents, 800 to 1000 seasonal residents, and as many as 1500 to 2000 day guests per day during ski season.
